Highfields Football Club Junior Academy

This year Highfields FC will introduce a Junior Academy in the U10, U11 and U12 age groups, offering a further avenue for our talented footballers to pursue a higher level of training.

The Club is determined to offer the best we can to all levels of players, providing them all with the opportunity to improve their football game at a pace they are comfortable with. With the introduction of the Academy the club will now have 3 levels where players will be able to grow and develop their football, these being:

  • Community   teams for those that want to enjoy the game without any pressure of performing
  • Challenge   teams for those that have reached a higher level of maturity in their football development and
  • Academy   teams for the selected talented players who would like to pursue a more competitive path

Trials will be conducted for these three age groups and players will be graded initially into either a Community or Challenge team. If numbers allow, there will be more than one of each grade of team in each of the competitions. The 12 Academy players will then be selected from the group of Challenge players. Trial dates are listed below. Attendance at all three trials is not obligatory for selection into any of the teams, but parents should remember, the more the coaches see a player, the more likely they are to grade them correctly.

Trial dates (times and venue tba):

26 February 2018

5 March 2018

12 March 2018

The Academy teams will have an additional training session per week and will have the opportunity to compete in Academy level carnivals representing the Club. Each Academy team will have its own Highfields Manager/Coach who will coach together with a Thunder FC coach. The Academy program will be split into two terms, the first being run concurrently with the second school term and the second Academy term running concurrently with the third school term. Player selection will be revised at the end of the first term to ensure continued player motivation and to provide opportunities for other new players to be accommodated.

The training session for the Academy players has been tentatively been planned for Tuesday afternoons between 3:30pm and 5:00pm. If selected, players that join the Academy will have an additional registration fee of $75 per term, which will include:

  • Additional training session with Thunder FC Coaches
  • Academy training shirt
  • Participation in Academy Level Carnivals as determined by the Club.

For those players that are motivated to play competitive football in future years and who exhibit talent, the Academy will be a fantastic opportunity for them to pursue. We must however reiterate that the Club’s aim is to cater for all levels within the Club, hopefully creating a great Club Community, where players stay within the sport and move through our various age groups making great friends along the way and being proud of having played at Highfields FC.

Coach development is also important to the Club, and for those that are interested in developing further we will continue to provide courses and workshops. If any coaches would like to be involved in the Academy please contact me. This will be a great opportunity to work with some top coaches.

Lastly if any sponsors would like to be involved in the Academy please contact me or the Club.

Should you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
